Digital Biomarkers for Non-Motor Symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease

A recent study explores the potential of wearable technology (WT) in monitoring non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), such as sleep disturbances and abnormal movements during sleep, which may indicate REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD). WT devices equipped with sensors could track these symptoms, potentially aiding in early screening and longitudinal monitoring of PD progression. Further research in larger patient populations is crucial to validate the reliability and clinical utility of WT in managing and predicting neurologic conditions associated with PD. NAPS will soon start WT monitoring as part of a pilot study at selected enrollment sites.
