RBD Question of the Week❓💤💡

This week, we have Dr. Carlos Schenck, a physician who first described RBD and a member of the NAPS Scientific Advisory Board, to answer one of our most pressing RBD questions.

Q: Why is it important to diagnose RBD?

A: A person with RBD can accidentally injure themselves or their bed partners. There are effective and safe therapies available to treat RBD, so it is important to confirm the diagnosis and seek treatment. Additionally, individuals with RBD have an increased risk of developing a neurodegenerative disorder such as Parkinson disease or dementia with Lewy bodies.

Accurate diagnosis and consultation with a sleep medicine specialist or neurologist can provide more information about this risk and options for anticipating and managing this future risk.
