Cognitive, Motor, and Autonomic Function Among Individuals with Serotonergic Versus iRBD

Data from NAPS were published in a recent study by NAPS Investigators, led by Dr. Michael Howell at University of Minnesota.

This analysis examined differences between RBD triggered by antidepressant medications ("Serotonergic RBD") and RBD without a known trigger (iRBD), among individuals enrolled in NAPS. On average, the group with Serotonergic RBD were younger and had greater mood and autonomic symptoms.

There were no significant differences on a general cognitive test or motor exam. Longitudinal follow-up, currently ongoing in NAPS, will be necessary to determine if individuals with Serotonergic RBD are at elevated risk of future neurodegenerative diseases, as in iRBD.
