RBD Question of the Week❓💤💡
This week, we have NAPS Investigator, Dr. Aleksandar Videnovic at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital to answer one of our most pressing RBD questions.
Q: How is RBD managed?
A: It is foremost important to maintain a safe sleeping environment to prevent injuries, which can occur to oneself and/or a bed partner due to dream enactment behaviors associated with RBD. For example, people with RBD should remove all sharp objects adjacent to the bed, cushion the headboard and floor by the bed, consider having a larger bed with a lower bed platform, and so on. These safety measures should be taken in every sleeping environment, including during travel.
Depending on the frequency and intensity of RBD symptoms, several medications may be considered. Medications are usually quite effective, and options should be discussed with your physician so that the best individualized choice can be made. Once someone with RBD starts any medications, it is imperative that they follow up with their physician regularly.
